This year IIT joint enterance examination has two papers(paper1 and paper2) comprising a total of 135 questions on Mathematics,Physics and Chemistry.
Paper 1
The most difficult section this year was Mathematics as compared to Physics and Chemistry, while the Chemistry section this year was easiest to attempt and score. There were a total of 69 questions in first paper with a total of 246 marks.
MATHEMATICS -> The maximum weightage was again this year given to Co-ordinate geometry which comprises a total of 28% questions in maths paper,as the maths paper is totally dominated by co-ordinate geometry, the questions were lengthy and difficult to comprehend.Other questions were based on application of complex number, equations etc.
PHYSICS -> The questions in physics paper were evenly distributed among all the topics, easiest among them were the assertion and reasoning type questions as they didnt require calculations only clearity of concepts were needed, the most toughest part physics question paper was comprehension type question which require deep knowledge of the concepts as interconnectivity among topics were needed.
CHEMISTRY -> The physical chemistry part was a bit tough as the questions are really confusing and an absent minded person will certainly commit mistakes but on an average chemistry paper was the consolation part as compared to other two papers.
Paper 2
The story of first paper repeats itself in the second paper also as Mathematics was toughest while Physics and Chemistry were easy as compared to maths paper. There were a toatal of 66 questions in paper 2 which comprises of 243 marks.
MATHEMATICS -> Second paper of Mathematics was evenly distributed among all the topics though the share of trigonometry was very less and the share of Integral calculas increases in the paper as compared to IIT-JEE 2007.
PHYSICS -> The questions of physics paper were a bit tough because they require interlinked concepts among various topics, only those students will excel in this paper who have concentrated on concepts rather than problem solving.
CHEMISTRY -> Chemistry paper was very confusing and all those topics which were absent from first paper appeared in second paper.
On the whole we can say that the paper was tough and a deep knowledge of concepts were required. All those who had done well in the exams get happy because cutoffs will be relatively low this year.
Expected IIT JEE 2008 cutoff for admission: 185-190 marks, while for getting last rank(7200) a candidate has to score 175 marks.
