googlePentagon has banned Google from taking pictures of its military sites, because of potential threats to the security. When the detailed images of the Fort Sam Houston army base in Texas, on the Google Maps Web service then a great question of security raised. It clearly showed the location of barriers, headquarters and control points.
Google earth, which provides street maps, satellite pictures and 3-D images of the countries across the globe, has agreed the decision of the pentagon to remove the offending figures.
The problem came from images on Street View (a Google service available only in United States), which allows the Web user to "Roam" along virtual US roads and see the ground level views.Google too admitted that, the decision to enter the Texas base was a "quite great mistake" and such a sensitive area was not a normal policy.
The search engine has now been barred from filming and conducting detailed mapping of all US military bases and, in particular, showing views of Fort Sam Houston. Officials are probing as to what other imagery is available on Street View and Google Earth
