On Friday, November 14, Google announced a sophisticated technology for Apple’s iPhone which will make the search a lot easier than before. It’s been almost a decade since the computer scientists have been trying to add human speech recognition to a software, and Google researchers have succeeded in doing the same.
The application is very easy to use, with just a few taps you are good to go. You can virtually put any question to it. The sound is converted to a digital file and is send to Google’s server for search. The search results may be displayed in a few seconds on a fast wireless network.
Both Microsoft and Yahoo already offer voice services for cellphones, but the Google application is far from perfect and returns much more accurate results. But the only hitch here is that this technology is available only for the Apple’s iPhone. May be in the near future we can see this feature in other 3G phones also, especially for Google’s own GPhone which was launched in markets in October this year.
